The Problem
The BC Climate Action Toolkit had a vast number of resources available to communities and municipal governments to inform their climate change strategy. But the Toolkit was dated, and lacked content categorization and filtering, making browsing their library difficult.
Our Approach
Our research began with the UX research team conducting a content audit, diving deep into their resources to better understand how they could be organized. Next, we underwent a collaborative UX categorization process, to restructure their information architecture, and organize their wealth of resources.
Competitor Analysis
We conducted a Heuristic Review of some of the leading Climate Change research and information websites as part of our UX research. Websites such as the NOAA and Climate Change in Australia were part of our review.
Beta Wireframes & Usability Testing
Once the visual design and prototyping were complete, we tested our prototype with local municipal employees for feedback.
To do this, we hosted testing sessions with participants at Number 41 Media’s offices, and, in some cases, remotely via teleconference. We asked our participants to perform a series of key tasks in the application and documented the results, using them to further inform our design efforts.
Please note: This prototype may take a moment to load, and is best viewed on a desktop.

Product Launch & Results
Toolkit’s launch took a little longer than expected, simply due to the scale of the information that needed to be tagged, categorized, and in some cases, reauthored. Happily, Toolkit was launched in early 2023. It is now home to a wealth of resources for local communities to learn about, make the business case for, and implement climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies in their local communities.
